Here’s the thing about business plans– they’re misleading.
There’s too much pressure around creating the perfect fashion business plan when someone wants to launch an independent brand. It causes a lot of people to stop cold in their tracks. I mean honestly, why is anyone wasting their time writing an executive summary?
I’ve watched people spend months and months “working on their business plan” and it makes me so sad because I know that they are getting lost in the planning rather than gaining momentum with the doing.
Now, I’m not saying you don’t need a plan.
I’m actually saying that you need multiple plans.
Stick with me, I’ll explain.
Rather than sitting down and trying to create an old-school business plan that spends way too much time explaining things in so much detail (but is ultimately useless because everything changes anyway) I want you to think about each area of your business and create a small, succinct plan that actually helps you launch.
Stop with the executive summaries, 5-year financial projections, and detailed post-launch marketing campaigns.
And start making real decisions like how you’re going to make your collection, ways you’re going to attract people other than your mom to buy your stuff when you launch, and how you’re going to collect the money you need to make this business happen.
Zoom in on the important parts of the plan and say goodbye to the time-wasting stuff.
