When something goes wrong in our business (or even when something goes right), we tend to quickly make decisions and moves. We go, go, go and transition immediately to the next decision, plan, or strategy.
But rarely do we take a minute to reflect. We don’t seem to give ourselves time to breathe.
You may have heard me talk before about how I don’t believe in the word “hustle.” I think the concept is crap. And I think hustle is tied into what I’m talking about now– this complete lack of space that we seem to give ourselves as we go about our daily business.
Lack of space to reflect on what worked or what didn’t work.
Lack of space to think about how we feel about our work, our business, our life, our direction.
Lack of space to consider possibilities.
Lack of space to just breathe a little bit.
Business is a fast-paced thing and keeping up with it can feel exhausting. Realizing this and giving ourselves permission to chill the hell out sometimes is so important for our health yet we rarely do it.
We move from one project to the next believing that success comes when we just keep going.
I get that you have goals and dreams and ideas and plans. And all of that is wonderful and important. But it’s also important to breathe.
Deep breaths when assessing success.
Deep breaths when reflecting on our feelings.
Deep breaths when thinking and dreaming.
Deep breaths to create a sense of calm, a peaceful approach to projects, and a minimizing of stress-induced decision making.
Can you tell I’ve gotten back into meditation recently?! Ha!
But seriously, try to slow down a little and give yourself some room to breathe. I promise you’ll feel a drastic difference in your approach to your fashion business and to your mental health.
Lots of love and encouragement,
