Our latest Instagram takeover was with independent designer Iyala Anne, founder of ANE AMOUR, as she gave us a peek into her business.
Iyala designs womenswear and draws inspiration from nature, music, and the art and life of different cultures. She is a member of the StartUp FASHION Community and is based in New York City.
Below is our interview with Iyala, where she takes us behind the scenes of an emerging brand and shares a look into what goes into running a fashion business in NYC.
There is a saying “you learn something new every day.” The day of your takeover, what did you learn about business in fashion?
No matter how busy your day is it’s important to have at least one fresh idea for your business. Something that sparks a next step.
What is your favorite photo you took? Why?
My favorite photo I took was the bronze sculpture of the garment worker from the NYC garment district. I think due to the combination of growing up in NYC and my passion for local production, this image holds a lot of emotional content for me and is a visual reminder of my hope to be part of keeping history and standards alive in the present time and for the future.
What is the most valuable thing you did the day of your takeover?
I had a good look at what kind of visual message and branding I want to communicate for ANE AMOUR. This I feel is a work in progress.
How would you describe your day in three words?
Energetic, full, thought provoking
What role has StartUp FASHION taken in your everyday business life?
StUF has given me tools and motivation to keep going NO MATTER WHAT. It’s like the feeling of your best friend having your back coupled with a smart business partner.
If you could give one piece of advice to fellow emerging designers, what would it be?
Keep going. Stay true to your passion. Even if your vision changes always stay true to yourself, your art, your standards.
